Section 7 - La Maison Forestiere to Haut Asco, 22.4 km, 2930 m +

This is a tough day despite the modest distance, invoilving a lot of up and down and rough ground.  It starts in the cool of the forest on a long rise up to Monte Corona.  The trail is not always easy to follow where it crosses scree slopes and ends steeply.  From the col an easy broken trail takes you to your first summit which offers wide views down to Calvi and toward the jagged peaks ahead.

The jagged skyline ahead

The path fades out on the broad ridge to Capu Ladroncellu but the way is easy.  The same cannot be said of the descent to the GR20 trail, which is broken and quite steep. There is no semblance of a path - just descend Southwest as best you can until you hit the trail.  From there on, a broken and very rough trail bypasses rocky towers as it picks its way through a chaos of rok pinnacles and walls.  The way rises up and down, denying any rhythm to be established.

Eventually, the trail descends steeply to the Refuge de Carozzu, set amonst a great cirque of rock slabs and towers.  Continue on the trail to the Bocca di a Stagnu where an easy scramble leads to the summit of A Muvrella, a superb viewpoint affording an extensive view over the chain of pinnacled peaks to the Southeast. The final descent is steep, rough and broken, so you'll be glad to arrive at the ski centre of Haut Asco.
