The mountains are left behind as the descent is made through the forest to Borivoli and onward to Sotta. The heat is likely to be felt here at just 100 metres above sea level, with little relief until the sea is reached. There's no avoiding the road up to Canni, where an oddity of the region is encountered in the form of an oriu. This is a cave like dwelling, constructed under a huge boulder. A further oriu can be seen at Chera, a little further up the road.
Oriu di Chera |
From Chera onwards, it's likely to be a long, hard slog under a burning sun, initially in the forest and then on dirt roads. You will pass through plantations of cork oak trees on the way. These can by readily identified when harvested, with a stripped back trunk where the bark has been removed.

The coast is met at the Pont de Ventilegne, where a good path follows the coast to the restaurant, residences and car park at La Tonnara.
