Section 14 - Refuge D'Asinau to Castellu di Capula, 27.6 km, 1300 m +

The first part of the day ascends the GR20 variant to the Aiguilles de Bavella.  These fantastical spires of rock seem to attract the swirling mists lending an air of mystery.  trail weaves a way through the aiguilles before descending to the mayhem of the restaurants at the Col de Bavella.  A swift exit from here is recommended.

Mists come and go on the Aiguiless de Bavella

The GR20 continues to Conca, but this journey goes South, first climbing the Punta Velaco - a prominent rocky peak that proves to involve no more than very modest scrambling.  Its ascent departs from the popular tourist trail to the Trou de la Bombe, taking a small trail up a couloir to thread a hole under a rock before continuing to the summit ridge.

Having returned to the Trou de la Bombe trail, a long descent through the forest ensues, followed by unavoidable road-walking into Zonza, a pleasant mountain village with good facilities. Here, the Mare a Mare Sud route is joined, following a well-constructed path through forest toward the village of Levie.
